AVAILABLE STEEL GRADES
Channel U-Profile - one of the types of complex high-quality metal products. The external distinctive feature of the profiles is that their cross-section has the shape of a turned letter "P". The structure consists of shelves, which are in parallel planes, and connecting the walls.

The products are characterized by relatively small dimensions and high stability. The position of their faces allows them to accept and withstand axial loads. The channel is a high-strength product with consistent results in bending and torsion tests.

Types of steel Channel U-Profiles
According to the manufacturing method, the profiles are divided into
:
  • hot rolled;
  • bent.
The first ones are produced by the hot rolling method, the second ones are made by bending the workpiece on the machine. The advantage of hot rolled products is rigidity and strength. The main advantage of bent channels is their low weight. The visual difference between the two types of profiles lies in the shape of their corners, for curved beams they are rounded.

Specification of hot-rolled channels according to EN standard
According to European quality standards and in accordance with physical parameters, channels are:

  • with parallel edges - UPE. Product weight starts at 7.9 kg / m. The lightest product is 80 mm high and has 7 mm wide shelves.
  • with slopes of internal shelves - UPN (UNP, U). The smallest physical values belong to the UPN 50 * profile. Its height is 50 mm, its weight is 5.59 kg / m, and the thickness of the shelves is 7 mm.
Both types of channels in their assortment have 14 types of products.

Channels UPE and UPN (UNP, U) are regulated:

  • by size - EN 10365 (previously the parameters of these profiles were determined by the standard DIN 1026-2, -1);
  • limit deviations - EN 10279;
  • for surface quality requirements - EN 10163-3 - class C, subclass 1
    According to British standards, the following types of channels are distinguished:

    • with parallel flange faces - PFC. There are only 16 varieties of this product. The product labeling indicates their dimensions. The smallest one is PFC 100x20x10 *, where its height is 100 mm, width - 50 mm, weight - 10.2 kg / m, and shelf thickness - 8.5 mm;
    • with inclined edges of the shelves - CH. The range includes 17 modifications of channels. The physical parameters of the profile are encrypted in the labeling of each. The smallest figures belong to CH 76x38x7 *. The dimensions of this product: height - 76.2 mm, width - 38.1 mm, weight - 6.7 kg / m, shelf thickness - 6.8 mm.

    PFC and CH channels are regulated:

    • in size - BS 4-1;
    • limit deviations - EN 10279;
    • for surface quality requirements - EN 10163-3 - class C, subclass 1.
    ASTM Hot Rolled Channel Specification
    There are several types of profile with shelf slope available in accordance with the standards of the American Society of Testing and Materials:
    • C - American standard channel. Varieties of this type of product start from C 75x6.1 *. The main parameters that classify the product are the height - 76 mm, width - 35 mm, weight - 6.1 kg / m, shelf thickness - 6.9 mm. There are 29 types of products in category C.
    • MS is an American channel, the range of which starts from MS 150x17.9 *, where 152 mm is the height, 17.9 kg / m is the mass, 63 mm is the width, and 9.5 is the thickness of the shelves. There are 26 types of MS class products in total.
    Channels C and MC are regulated by the ASTM A 6 / A 6M - 12 standard in terms of size, limit deviations, and surface quality requirements.
    * - the minimum tonnage of the profile is indicated as agreed

    The composition of the channels

    For the manufacture of U-shaped hot-rolled products, the following structural steel grades are used:
    • unalloyed ordinary quality: 1.0038 (S235JR), 1.0044 (S275JR), 1.0045 (S355JR);
    • unalloyed quality: 1.0143 (S275J0), 1.0145 (S275J2), 1.0491 (S275NL), 1.0553 (S355J0), 1.0577 (S355J2), 1.0546 (S355NL), 1.0596 (S355K2);
    • alloy welded high quality: 1.8819 (S275ML), 1.8834 (S355ML).
    Characteristics and application of steel channels

    Due to the design features and physical characteristics, the scope of application of steel channels is expanding every day. The most common U-shaped products in the construction industry. They are more often used as load-bearing structures. Profiles are in demand when assembling prefabricated objects - containers, hangars, boxes, etc.

    Channel bars are a reliable structural element that gives it rigidity and stability. They are easily used as a support system for roofs, interfloor ceilings, windows and doors.
    At the same time, object and landscape design are among the areas of application of beams. Profiles are used to create furniture and decorative items, when designing stairs and installing fences.

    The impressive bearing capacity of channel bars makes them indispensable in many industrial sectors:

    • shipbuilding;
    • car building;
    • mechanical engineering;
    • machine tool industry and others.
