Steel profile pipes: types and their characteristics Profile pipes are atypical steel rolled products, which are characterized by a square or rectangular (less often oval) cross-section. Profile pipes are used in almost all industrial sectors - from construction to furniture production.
Depending on the cross-sectional shape, profile pipes are divided into two large categories: - rectangular shaped pipes - perfect as a load-bearing element where the load vector is precisely known;
- square shaped tubes - perfect as a load-bearing element for steel structures with lateral loads.

The production of shaped pipes is carried out using several technologies, as a result of which the following finished metal products are obtained: - Seamless shaped pipes are metal products that are obtained by hot forming a steel billet, which is a seamless pipe. Depending on which seamless pipe was used as a workpiece, shaped products can be divided into cold-rolled and hot-rolled seamless shaped pipes. Seamless profile pipes are characterized by increased tightness and strength due to the absence of a welded seam. Recommend seamless shaped pipes for use in difficult working conditions with high internal pressure and high / low temperature of the transported medium;
- welded shaped pipes are metal products that require a blank (strip or sheet steel) to be manufactured. The workpiece is alternately driven through the cutting and welding line, obtaining a steel strip of the required width. Then this tape is placed in a special drum and passed through the rollers, which form the required profile (rectangular or square). The joint of the edges of the workpiece is welded with a straight or spiral seam. Welded shaped tubes can be calibrated. Calibrated shaped tubes are characterized by well-defined dimensional tolerances and a specified maximum surface roughness.
